short story
On Facebook
We had kept in touch since their facebook account added mine
two weeks ago. They were Rian, Anton and Ika. We once were classmates in one of
elementary schools in Bekasi. It had been about five years I did not meet them because my family had decided to move to out of town after
I finished my last examination on 6th grade.
“So, you
teach English, Mam?” commented Anton on my new status, trying to tease me. I
wrote on my facebook status that I was so happy to have a part time job as an
English private teacher. It was his first comment on my status after we talked
about ourselves each other on our wall-to-wall. “Yes, I do, Student. Hehehe. By
the way, when will you go home?” I answered his comment. Anton schooled in
Yogyakarta. “May be on the day after tomorrow, Fi,” answered him, still via
facebook. “Good then,” commented me. At the time, most of the first and the
second senior high school students were on holiday because the third senior
high school students were doing their last examination. Anton, Rian, Ika and I
were the second grade of senior high school. “Fi, are you free next Thursday? I
want to see you. I am so curious how you look like now. Hehehe.” I did not
answer his last comment because suddenly my account was in error. I believed it
was because of the signal error. So, I decided to sign out.
The next
day, I opened my facebook account and found nine notifications. All
notifications were about the comments on my last status. There was a comment
from Rian below the last comment from Anton. He said, “Wow, that’s good idea!
By the way, is it only Fifi that you wanna see, Ton?” Anton replied Rian’s
comment, “Hahaha. Actually, If possible, I’ll invite all our classmates on 6B.
I really want to know how they look like now. You’ve been my neighbor for
seventeen years, so, I already know how you look like. Hehehe. But if you want
to join, let’s go, Ian!” Below their comments, Ika’s comment came up, “Hei,
guys. I’d love to if you invite me. I also wanna see you, guys.” Anton replied
hers,”@Ika: Let’s join us then! More
people join, better it will be. So, are all of you free on next Thursday?” The
comments from Rian and Ika came up on the same time. They answered yes. Next,
the rest three comments are from Ika, Rian and Anton. Each of them put the same
emoticon: an emoticon who is laughing. I added a comment on the status as my
answer. I said, “I’d love too. So, where will we meet, Guys?” Only in a second,
Anton answered my comment, “In Cibubur Junction, Fi. In Olala Café, @7pm.” I
smiled and typed OK before my account signed out itself due to the signal
error.
The day
when I should meet them came. I asked my brother to drop me on Cibubur Junction
an reminded him to pick me up at ten. I searches for Olala Café and found it
right beside Pizza Hut. It was 6.30. I decided to go to the restroom first.
Drrrt!! My
cell phone vibrated. There was a message from unknown number. It was written,
“Fi, it’s Ika. I’m with Rian n Anton. We are on the way”. I replied it OK.
“Fifi?”
Somebody called my name when I was washing my hands. “Yes?” I looked up to a
girl standing beside me. She had long black hair and was wearing a pink cute
dress. “Sorry?” I said. “Fifi! Don’t you know who I am?” asked that girl. I
shook my head as the answer. “I am Mursida!” I turned off the tap and stared at
her for a while, checking my memory about the name. “Mursida? Are you Mursida
SDN 01?” She nodded her head. I felt so surprised. “oh my God! How are you,
Mur?” We hugged each other and went out from the restroom together.
“By the
way, what are you doing here, Fi? I thought you live in Bogor.” She
said. “Yes I live there. But actually, today I have an appointment with Rian,
Ika, and Anton here. Do you still remember them?” I asked Mursida. Mursida stopped
walking. She frowned. “You mean Andrian, Antonious and Romanaika? Our classmates
in elementary school?” I nodded. “Hahaha. Tell me that you are making Thursday
night spooky joke. Hahaha.” Mursida laughed. It was my turn to frown. “No.” I said
seriously. Mursida stopped laughing. The expression on her face changed. “Fi,
are you serious?” asked her, in a serious tone. I nodded my head. “But they…”
Mursida hanged her sentence. I waited. “They…” I felt something strange in the
crowded of the mall. “They what?” I could not stand anymore. Mursida shook her
head. Her face looked pale. “But they died last year.” She said. I was shocked
and almost fell down. Mursida hold me. “Fifi? Are you OK?”
Next,
Mursida brought me to the nearest café. It is Liontin café, located on the
opposite Olala café. She gave me a glass of water and tried to calm me down. I told
everything to Mursida about what happened between those three persons and me on
facebook.
Mursida listened
to me carefully and still tried to understand my feeling. After I felt calm
down, it was her turn to tell the truth story of those three persons. She said
that Rian, Anton and Ika were in the same senior high school. They joined study
tour to Yogyakarta and got an accident last year. The bus which the three took
in fell down to a ravine. There was not any passenger from the bus that could
be found because the ravine was so deep.
“I am sorry
to hear that,” I said. Mursida hold my hand. “It’s OK, Fi. Maybe they miss you.”
I nodded. “Actually, when they were in junior high school, I often saw them
hang out in that café.” Mursida pointed the café across the café we were in.
Drrrrrt! My
cell phone vibrated. There was a message from an unknown number. It is written,
“Fi, this is Ika. I am with Rian and Anton. We’re sorry we cannot meet our
appointment. We cannot go out from this narrow valley. It’s too dark and cold
here. We miss you. Hihihi….” Suddenly, my cell phone turned off itself.
I checked
my facebook account and tried to search the comments and walls that had been
posted from Rian, Anton and Ika before. But, I did not find them. All were
disappeared. I also could not find them on my friend list. They were gone.
